The proclamation celebrates her rangoli artwork selected as the centerpiece of the USPS 2026 Diwali Forever Stamp — a historic moment for Indian folk art on the national stage.
An Artist Since 1997
Sangita Bhagwan Bhutada is an educationist with a master's degree in art and an authority in the traditional Indian arts of rangoli and henna (mehndi). Her career began at a rangoli camp in India, where she taught 500 youngsters over a month.
Her themes range from geometric patterns and flowers to deities — created with colored powders, flowers, and grains, and even expressed on water and ice. She has authored and published 17 books on henna, rangoli and embroidery.
